Dogs get bored. Hey, do you blame them? Many of them sit around the house all day every day with no one to keep them company. I can't even sit around the house alone for one twenty-four hour stretch without at least veggin' out on the TV or internet. If it was a daily occurrence I'd definitely lose my mind.

Here are 10 great tips to help your dog bury the boredom:
  1. Patch Dot Com
    Dogs playing

The next time you're out for a walk socialize with other owners who's dogs get along with your dog. Get their digits, and set up a doggie play date.

  2. Rubix Cube

If your dog can solve a rubix cube definitely take them on America's Got Talent. If not, stimulate their brains with interactive toys like a stuffed kong.

  3. How much is that doggie in the window?

Most dogs love people watching even more than people do. Set them up somewhere that they have access to a window.

  4. Reroute Their Route
    Dog Path

Walking the same few blocks every day get old, even for a dog. They want new sites and smells, its highlight of their day, keep it fresh for them. (Swifto has GPS tracking maps on our walks, ask your walker to switch up their path every now and then).

  5. Everlasting Dog-Stopper

Give them a snack that takes them weeks to chew threw like a raw hide or hoof.

  6. Pants Labyrinth
    Agility Dog

Set up a maze or obstacle course for them to figure their way through. Place a treat at the end and send them back through again, see if they can increase their finishing speed.

  7. Penned-house Suite

If you keep your dog in a designated area during the day while you're away, move it around to different parts of the house from time to time. A change of environment can make all the difference. (This may not apply to those in Manhattan studio apartments).

  8. When you are there, be there

Make the most of your time together, especially if you are away a lot. You can watch Netflix and play tug-o-war at the same time. So you have no excuse to neglect your buddy.

  9. Auto-tune
    Cats watching TV

When a dog is alone the sounds of people talking can be comforting. Leave the radio on to N.P.R., or the TV on to Animal Planet, or any station that plays lots of talk shows. Dogs love Ellen.

  10. Wedding Ringer

If you're away from home a lot and your dog is left alone, buy them a friend. If one dog is more than your home can handle consider hiring a dog walker. Even if your dog is potty trained for long periods of time or has a dog door to the yard they can still get very bored.
